Therapist / supervisor / Writer / Host of On The Journey
I help therapists recognize the relational blind spots that keep them stuck with certain clients — so the work can move again.
Start here — Process Notes
Process Notes — my free weekly newsletter for therapists and helpers of every kind. My passion is helping helpers help better: learning to use the therapeutic relationship itself as the vehicle of change. My work is built on the belief that we're all wounded healers and that the most important work we do is our own. Now and then, I also share the personal practices that sustain me, and a little of the business and content craft of building a life in this work.
Mindfulness for Big Emotions
Mindfulness for Big Emotions — free, for therapists and clients both. Learning to sit with our emotions — and explore them — with connection, compassion, and curiosity, instead of turning away. A practice for expanding your own capacity to be with big feelings (because we can only meet a client as far as we've met ourselves) and something you can share with the people you work with.
Meet JP
I'm a therapist — and, more and more, a therapist for therapists. What most shaped my own work wasn't a technique or a training. It was the slow, uncomfortable work of seeing my own patterns: where I reach for approval, where I brace, the ways I can quietly ask a client to make me feel useful. We can only take someone as far as we've gone ourselves. So my work now is helping other clinicians do that inner work — to recognize the relational patterns they carry into the room, and to grow more effective by growing more honest with themselves. Less technique, more truth. Because how you are with a client matters more than what you know.
I'm a husband, a father, a therapist, and a son — still doing my own work, out loud.
