ABOUT KOUM COUNSELING & WELLNESS

WHY KOUM?

At Koum Counseling & Wellness, we believe that healing begins in relationship, and nobody understands this better than our founders, John-Paul and Alyssa Dombrowski. Their journey together started with love but revealed a shared discovery — that many people, including themselves, often go through life sleepwalking, stuck in disconnection and repeating painful relational patterns.

The pain of living half-awake, where anxiety and unresolved hurt fill the gaps of daily life, led them to a profound commitment. Together, they cultivated not just a marriage, but a mission: to help others wake up and truly live. Inspired by the meaning of 'Koum' – an Aramaic word which means 'to wake up' or 'to arise' – they knew they could bring transformation to those who felt trapped in cycles of distress.

With JP as the licensed clinical therapist (LPCC-S) and Alyssa with a degree in business management and marketing, co-creating the mission and culture of Koum, their practice is founded on the belief that profound change happens through committed, intentional relationship. Unlike conventional therapy, our approach is explicitly relational and experiential. We are here to guide individuals, couples, and fellow therapists through the intricate layers of personal and interpersonal healing.

WHAT SETS US APART

THE DIFFERENCE

At Koum, clients experience a unique, rigorously trained therapeutic environment where they explore their deepest selves. Our therapists are committed to ongoing training, dedicating six hours each week to deepen their professional and personal growth. They embody the belief that "a therapist can only take someone as far as they’ve gone themselves."

The results speak for themselves: clients move from managing symptoms to understanding the narratives behind them, discovering inner strength and connection that was once elusive. Couples learn to navigate their relationship cycles, exchanging reactivity for meaningful engagement. Group members find solidarity and practice new ways of relating, leading to lasting changes in their daily lives.

“TO WAKE UP”

OUR MISSION

At Koum, we are not just a practice; we are a home for healing. We offer an open door to those desiring to awaken from the pain of disconnection. The trust and presence cultivated in our sessions thread through every aspect of our practice, ensuring that clients feel seen, heard, and understood.

This is our mission — We believe that healing happens in relationship. As a trusted clinical resource within the community, our rigorously trained clinicians offer intentional, human-centered care and a steady presence to all those who seek healing. Through collaboration, exploration, and encounter, we move together towards transformation and deep growth.

  • Rooted in Presence

This isn't a technique we teach, it's a discipline we practice, choosing over and over to be awake to what's actually in front of us instead of drifting past it. That same discipline is what you'll find in the room: unhurried, undistracted, and fully with you.

  • Deeply Relational

Change doesn't happen from being handed the right answer. It happens inside a real relationship, being known, challenged, and stayed with. That's the whole premise here: connection isn't a step before the work, it is the work.

  • Radically Human

Every clinician here does their own weekly work, training, reflection, honesty about their own patterns, because that's what actually qualifies someone to sit across from you. We'd rather you trust us for how we show up than for a five-star review, which is why we don't use client testimonials. This is a craft practiced on ourselves first.

Meet the team

John-Paul Dombrowski, LPCC-S

CO-FOUNDER & CLINICAL DIRECTOR

JP co-founded Koum on the conviction that we're shaped, wounded, and healed in relationship. Working with individuals, couples, and groups, he helps people who keep hitting the same patterns move from knowing-in-their-head to real, lived change — through the interpersonal process, parts work, and mindfulness. He leads much of Koum's work with fellow therapists.

ALYSSA DOMBROWSKI

CO-FOUNDER & DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

Alyssa leads the operations that hold the practice together — the systems, the space, and the day-to-day details that let good therapy actually happen. She brings the same conviction to running Koum that she brings to her marriage: that a life built with intention, presence, and care shows up in everything, down to how a practice is run and how it feels to walk through the door.

Meredith Lindle, LPC

THERAPIST

Meredith works with the people everyone else relies on — the dependable ones, the caretakers, the mothers — who hold it all together yet feel drained and unseen in their own relationships. Through the interpersonal process, parts work, and attachment-based therapy, she helps untangle the cycle of performing to earn love, toward relationships where you feel supported, not just relied on.

Kateri Kalpakgian, LPC

THERAPIST

Kateri works with people whose lives look put-together on the outside while something quietly comes apart within — managing anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and the strain of holding it all together until they barely recognize themselves. Interpersonal at her foundation but flexible to each person, she helps preteens, teens, and adults move from performing toward feeling understood, and fully alive.

Jessica Brinker, LPC

THERAPIST

Jessica works with people who are quietly overwhelmed — who start the day already anxious, gripping hard to keep it all together as it slips through their fingers. Blending the interpersonal process, CBT, and Emotionally Focused Therapy, she helps teens and adults work through anxiety, OCD, depression, and burnout, building practical ways to change the patterns underneath — beginning with simply being received.

under one roof

Koum is more than a practice. It's a home we built with space to spare, and a community we're still gathering inside it — held together by one conviction: that we're shaped, wounded, and healed in relationship. The work just takes different forms depending on who comes in, and why. However you find your way here, you're walking into the same place, and there's room for you.
